1808 Albany St (Elliott Side) - Under the Oaks

Click the pop-out button in the top right corner of the image to view a full-sized version, zoom in, and download.
It's important to keep summer water to a minimum especially under our Oak trees - these plants only need water for the first two years to establish.  This garden also utilizes a grassed swale to sink in water and recharge the aquifer. A swale is a shallow channel with gently sloping sides designed to manage water runoff, filter pollutants, and increase rainwater infiltration.

Garden Highlights:

  • California native plants that are adapted to our Summer dry climate
  • Milkweed masses to feed Monarch butterflies
  • Sawcut existing concrete path to create pavers
  • Swales and infiltration basins - sink the water in - don't lose it to the storm drain
